Catify Cafe & Adoptions - November 2019 Updates

Updated: Nov 26, 2019

November 1st, 2019

Well, today we are officially a corporation, since our "start date" was set to November 1st. We worked today on several of the Important documents for the 501C3 Filing, as well as defined our mission statement, purpose and goals. Also opened up today our checking account for our non-profit and Wednesday of next week, will be getting our merchant account for both the cafe & secure online transactions through the PNC Bank. It is amazing just how much has to be done to get to the end result. However, once through all this "paperwork" we then can concentrate on what our mission is...... CATS !! Unfortunately, tonight, we are dealing with one of our own cats (Jethro, pictured for this months blog posts) who we adopted in January of 2011, is not feeling good, partly lethargic, not drinking much and turning down food. Sadly, just two months ago he had a temp of 104.7, and two trips to our local vet finally helped him. So tomorrow, fortunately a different clinic has Saturday hours till noon, so we will try to get him in there.

November 2nd, 2019

Unfortunately, today I have been running on fumes. Both my wife & I were up a lot last night because of Jethro. He went into our bedroom closet to hide which is so out of character for him. He is our "Equal Opportunity Kitty" and always shares his time with us while sleeping on our bed at nights. He refused his food and treats this morning. He NEVER refuses treats!!

We were able to get him into the Vets Office at 11am. Had a temp of 103.7, and blood work to rule out infection, diabetics, etc. Good News, kidneys, liver, WBC, etc, was all pretty much in line. So now we have him on Meloxicam and another medication, and tonight he was beginning to perk up. Our experience today was a "Great Reminder" to us why we are wanting to set up this low cost facility for the community. Our fees for Jethro was $185 for the blood work, visit and one medication (5 pills) as we already had Meloxicam from previous visits since we have 17 cats, otherwise it would of been more like $225.

Don't get me wrong, I "Get It" pertaining to prices, they are a larger facility, many employees and doctors salaries to cover and gave us quality care !! Our difference is we will be a Not-For-Profit facility with pricing to cover expenses and overhead, with no pressure to "Turn a Profit" for owners or share holders. The is nothing wrong for the "for-profit" places, but our hearts are to make it affordable for those who may not otherwise be able to care for their cats, which in turn will help those cats who may be sick or suffering!!

On the other side of news.... we continued to work with our Corporate Bylaws and other required structuring papers to make this organization official.

November 3rd, 2019

Went to bed at midnight last night (actually 11 with the time change) and Jethro came up on our bed and seemingly looked like he was getting better. Started to eat again, ate his treats and fever felt like it was going down. Tonight, I think he may be regressing backwards again. He is eating a "Little" and kinda droopy with being lethargic again. Meanwhile, Ellie Mae, our other tiger is licking raw spots on her belly all of a sudden. So probably tomorrow another trip to the vets with at least her and possibly Jethro if he is not better. The picture below was when he was starting to feel better.

As for the business side of things, we FINALLY got done with the Mission/Vision Statements plus others and the Corporate By-Laws. SO now we proceed onto filing for the 501C3 Status with the IRS. We also have picked out our New LOGO that we will brand ourselves with. Will get that up here in the next day or two. We'll keep you posted as we go.

November 4th, 2019

Crazy day today!! Jethro seems to maybe SLOWLY be improving, but is not back to normal yet. However, Ellie Mae, pictured in Octobers blog, had to go to the vets today as over the weekend, she licked herself several raw spots on her stomach, taking the fur completely off. She got a steroid shot, no fever, and as of tonight, she seems to be a little calmer and no longer licking the spots near as much. Spent some time today starting to round up QUOTES for equipment for the Veterinarian side of what we will be doing. Concentrated today on blood analysis system and x-ray unit. Also started working on a BLOG titled: How It ALL Began!! Starting back in 2010 until the point we are at today. It will have a lot of pictures to show the progression as well. This will post by 11/23/19 when we launch the official website. Tomorrow, we lock down which logo we will use to brand ourselves, and will post that on up no later than Wednesday, here on the blog.

November 5th, 2019

Today, Jethro seems to be doing a little bit better and eating a little better as well. Still not 100% but starting to act more like himself. Ellie Mae is turning around as well, hopefully tomorrow they will be back 100%. Worked today on several things..... now about 1/2 ways through a NEW blog we will post next week and will be the main information page for the fund raising kickoff. Lots of info on how Catify Cafe & Adoptions, Inc. all came about with lots of pictures going back to 2011. Also have started to get general info for business & liability insurance and had a great conversation with our Graphics Designer, Karma. She will fine tune our logo we have chose and we will post one of the versions we will use here tomorrow night. Also, we have continued to work on the "Corporate Bylaws" as far as "Fine Tuning" the language.

Jethro, Abby, Grayson & Ellie Mae keep me company as I write this blog !! 11-5-2019

November 6th, 2019

Jethro at least improved some more. I feel he is 85%+ back to himself, so we'll keep an eye on him. Ellie seems to be back to her normal self now. Today, we got our Merchant Services account set up so we will be able to process credit cards both online through our website (totally secure through PNC Bank) and we will be receiving our Catify Cafe & Adoptions corporate credit card that will help keep track of our expenses. Below are the TWO of five logos that were created for us to use with our organization. We will brand ourselves with one and use both internally within our physical facility. Tomorrow, we will finalize all the corporate paperwork and we will file the 1023 form for our section 501(c)(3) status on Friday @ 10am.

This will be our "Branding" logo used everywhere !!

If you look at the scrolling pictures at the top of this site, you will see Ellie Mae is on the cup !!

November 7th, 2019

Tonight will be a simple post, I am "fine tuning" our mission statement and vision that will be posted on the website. Below is what is in our current bylaws. Our "fine tuning" will just be more detailed from our general statement. For those interested, Jethro is almost completely back to his old ways !! We are so thankful for that !!

Section 1. Nonprofit Purpose

Catify Café & Adoptions is a non-profit, no-kill organization that is dedicated to reducing overpopulation, abuse and neglect of domestic & feral cats. Catify Café & Adoptions is run by compassionate like-minded professionals who assist in the care of cats that will be entrusted to us by other non-profit animal shelters to help reduce overcrowding when needed. We will provide low cost spay and neuter services, emergency, sickness and wellness care via staffed, licensed veterinarian and low cost cat adoptions. Depending upon each case, we may provide free services to Veterans/Military Families who may not be able to afford such costs.

Section 2. Specific Purpose

Catify Café & Adoptions will provide food, shelter, medical and care to all cats that are in our facility for adoption from other animal shelters until they are adopted out or the originating shelter takes them back for their own adoption purposes. With the exception of the recovery room from the surgeries, we will be a “Cage Free” facility where we have several large family rooms where the cats will reside and where potential adopters can go in and interact with several cats at one time to find the “Right Cat.” We will provide education on how to properly care for cats, such as proper litter box etiquette, proper diets, learning the language of cats, etc.

November 8th, 2019

As of this morning, approximately 10:45 am, we officially submitted our IRS 1023 non-profit exemption application. According to our accountant, we should hear from them anywhere from 4-8 weeks. We'll keep you posted. We also got today our own official phone number, that we will use once we open at a location, as an emergency number for after hours. For now the number will be used to respond to general calls incoming. We also continued working on our official website that we will launch hopefully by 11-23-2019.

November 9th, 2019

Been working most of the time with the "How it all began" blog page that we will launch next week, as well as starting to form our new actual website we will be using (currently hidden until we are done creating it). Also just started a Facebook page and got our new logo up and just a few details started. For the next several days will be doing much of the same, so I might take a day or two off from the blog while working.

November 11th, 2019

The last couple of days we have been working on a Blog Post pertaining to "How Catify Cafe & Adoptions all Started" We are almost done and will release that probably by Thursday. It has been fun putting together the story from our first cat to our now 17 Furry Family Members. We had to find all the earlier pictures which was a blast going down memory lane. We have also started working on the "Actual" website that will launch between the 23rd to the 26th of this month. One of our resident cats, Ellie Mae, now has a severe cold, sneezing like a shotgun and is all congested. One of our Vets we use prescribed Claxamox today, which is an antibiotic. Hopefully the other three who hang around her do not get sick too. I know it is no fun for them not to be able to breathe very well when so congested.

November 13th, 2019

Not too much to report this day other than we have been working on the Actual website we will be using, trying to lay it out and make it user friendly and easy to read. Also very close to finalizing the new blog on how this all started. On the October 26th, post, we stated we had looked at a possible location. We have been in discussion with the leasing agent about the layout, potentially securing some designated parking spaces for "Pick-Up" Orders that would come in via online or phone ahead orders since we do not have drive through capabilities at the location. We are also having to go to Wayne County Building Department next week to find out about the plumbing. Might have to dig up the floor to place in water and drain lines for the cafe area. If so, we'll have to check out the costs.

November 14th, 2019

Today was a very busy day. We are about 2/3rds of the way through our new website, some of the pages, like the cafe, basic info until we open. Have just a couple more pages to add for now, and then all the SEO wording on EACH Specific Webpage so that we are found by Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc. Also, we have finished the "How it all started" blog that will post up here tomorrow night. I spoke with and now am getting quotes from a company call Zoetis, the largest, global animal health company, for an entire setup for doing "In-House" blood labs for the cats. Next after the website is done, we have to integrate secure donation/payment buttons on our website and a Go-Fund-Me site as we kick off our fundraising event just prior to Thanksgiving. Jethro, today jumped up on my lap while I was working on the website, and advised me NOT to have dogs on the website, even if they were using a microscope and stethoscope. Jethro said this is a CATS ONLY site, so we have since changed the picture. See pics below.

November 18th, 2019

Well today was a challenging day!! Our 80 Y.O. Mothers car had he window smashed out and purse stolen with everything in it. Have spent all day today working on cancelling all her credit cards, store cards, and everything in between. Still have been working on the website, spending HOURS on figuring out the CODE for secure, credit card transactions. It is actually already secured by First Data / PNC Bank, but getting it to show up correctly is the issue. Might switch to Paypal. Still hoping to launch website sometime later this week or now by the weekend.

November 21st, 2019

Our Website, about 2/3rds complete, has launched. Still more info/pages to be done by Monday, but we needed it "Live" to see how the coding was laying out for us. We still have lots to do with it, but can build it and update it as we go. Our new Banner was created, and we want to say a BIG THANK YOU to Karma Hartzler, a very talented and artistic young lady who created it for us. What a great way to see all of our cats we own all on one picture !!

November 25th, 2019

Now we are about as far as we can go with the website, with some pages with basic info until we get opened and have more details to place on those pages. We did get a live streaming cam and will at least show some of our Catify Family starting in the next day or two. Now we are building "info" sheets that people can download or request and are hoping to have those done by this weekend sometime, after the Thanksgiving Holiday. My wife and I are spending Thanksgiving with some friends from our church right after she bakes her delicious Apple Pie!! Getting together with friends is always a great time and fun to do. We also have a "revised" banner (pictured above this entry), so now our four black cats show up better. We just need to overlay our logo on the blank wood first before we post the new one.
